Living creatively and adaptively

Thanks for visiting— I’m Travis

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in PA with a doctorate in Counseling and Human Development Services, 20 years in the counseling field, and 16 years of experience as a graduate level instructor. My pronouns are he/him/his. I’m also a joyful husband and father, a passionate leisure drummer, and dog dad to a barky little pup.

I help clients work through the messy parts of life and help develop confidence in their ability to handle:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Men and fatherhood issues

  • Grief, loss, and life transitions

“This process of the good life is not, I am convinced, a life for the faint-hearted. It involves the stretching and growing of becoming more and more of one’s potentialities. It involves the courage to be. It means launching oneself fully into the stream of life.”

— Carl Rogers “On Being a Person”

My name means “dweller at the crossroads.” My parents didn’t know who I would be back when they wrote Travis on the birth certificate, but it turns out to fit me well.

Life is filled with crossroads we traverse every day. Most of them we don’t recognize until they’re behind us, but some may feel like more than we can navigate alone. When those times arise, I consider it the highest honor to walk alongside you.

As a counselor, I view my work as traveling with people into these “in between” spaces, as they continue to grow into themselves. The work can sometimes feel difficult and uncomfortable, but I have witnessed that it can also be freeing and fulfilling.

Professional credentials:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, License # PC004843

  • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), Center for Credentialing and Education, ID # ACS00980

  • Doctorate in Counseling and Human Development Services from Kent State University

  • Masters in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University

In a nutshell, I take a brotherly approach to counseling work that is both companionable and hopeful.

Over the past two decades, I have counseled in community mental health centers, university counseling offices, clinical research trials, and private practice settings—with people of different racial, sexual, gender, and faith identities.

During that time, I supervised and trained hundreds of graduate students, which has given me the unique opportunity to experience and learn from others even as they learn from me.

I work primarily from a Humanistic framework and make use of various techniques to promote growth, including:

  • Analytic

  • Cognitive Behavioral

  • Constructivist

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Voice Dialogue/”parts work”

I deeply believe that our unique expressions of personhood deserve full articulation, respect, and rich valuing. I can say with certainty that you have great value in just being yourself. It is not my place to tell you how to feel or how to be; your experiences, desires, and goals are your own.

During our time together, I work to understand what you envision for yourself so I can better assist you in bringing all the pieces of yourself into the world. I also acknowledge that we exist in a society that can inflict harm to us through systemic racism, sexism, heterosexism, and societal oppression, and sometimes the difficulties we face are not inside of us. We start wherever you are today, together, and collaborate on finding a way forward.

As a professional, I engage in monthly individual consultation in Jungian analysis to help deepen my work with clients. Additionally, I participate in weekly group consultation with a diverse group of mental health professionals to ensure that I am working within the ethical and professional standards that govern the practice of counseling.
